About Us
Do not waste time bothering whether you "love" your neighbor; act as if you do. As soon as we do this we find one of the great secrets. When you are behaving as if you loved someone you will presently come to love him.
C. S. Lewis
While The Annunciation Mission is a cross-denominational Christian ministry, we follow one of the rules of St. Benedict: to welcome the stranger.
We welcome all groups and people to stay here. In the past, we have hosted other groups including synagogues, public/non-religious schools, service organizations, and university students.
The Annunciation Mission provides lodging and guides people towards volunteer and missional opportunities in the City of New Orleans.
While a Christian mission, we welcome all people to stay and work with us. Mission volunteers work throughout our neighborhood, Broadmoor, and the city of New Orleans.
Here are some of the ways to help in New Orleans:
Rebuilding Homes
Volunteers will rebuild houses in New Orleans. Based on their age, skills and comfort level, they may be doing painting, scraping, tiling, cleaning, furniture or appliance installation. Annunciation can supervise an array of projects. Volunteers will be given instructions, water, and first aid as needed.
Youth Work / Tutoring
Volunteers can work with young New Orleanians in a variety of capacities. During the school year, volunteers can tutor at Andrew Wilson Charter School. Wilson is an elementary school is operated by Broadmoor residents for the community.
Environmental Work
Volunteers with an interest in helping the environment can work with our partner, Michelle’s Earth Foundation, to do lead remediation around New Orleans.
Food Bank
Interested volunteers can help out at one of New Orleans most important food banks: the Second Harvest Food Bank of Greater New Orleans.
Landscaping / beautification
Interested volunteers may work with Annunciation staff to cut grass, clear trash and plant trees in private lawns, parks and other spaces.
Other – Create Your Own
Volunteers with a specific skill set may develop independent projects, with guidance from Annunciation or the Broadmoor Development Corporation.
